Biography
Dr. Prabir Patra is a Professor and Founding Chair, Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Bridgeport, USA. He holds joint appointment as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Prabir has a PhD in Materials Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur, India. Prabir did his postdoctoral work at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Rice University on biomaterials and nanotechnology respectively. The focus of his research is to understand the fundamentals of biophysical science processes at a nano-scale and apply their underlying principles to develop advanced materials through structure, property and function relationships for novel nanotechnology driven biomedical engineering applications
Research Interest
Continued research effort on polymer nanomaterials that emphasize creativity and collaboration in developing new understanding on fundamentals and technology of multifunctional polymer nanocomposite (biosensors, immunoassay based nanofibrous membranes, self assembled structure, morphologically evolved interface) materials and biologically inspired nanomaterials, tissue engineering using extensive experience in polymer formulations, synthesis and structure-property relations.
